American Dreamers: How the Left Changed a Nation, by Michael Kazin

To The Editor:

This is not an easy, a fun or a simple argument to make, but it’s the right one. While I respect Paul Krugman, Robert Reich and Bill McKibben, to name a few, advocacy is not nearly as complex as governance. Cutting to the chase: Abandoning Obama in 2012 will lead to a Perry, Bachmann or Romney presidency. Instead of disappointment in some of Obama’s E.P.A. rulings, there may be no E.P.A. And that will be just the beginning of it. I understand disappointment; I hope progressives understand catastrophe.
