If you have been following the news – carefully – then, sadly, this is no surprise, given (i) a foreign policy of pre-emption, (ii) the evisceration of habeus corpus, and (iii) the severe weakening of the Posse Comitatus Act. Add to this the “climate of fear” created by the Bush Administration after 9/11, and the increase in surveillance and eradication of privacy rights and measures, and you have the “perfect storm” for proto-totalitarianism.
As noted previously, I (and many others) believe this will take root in the form of a devastating “false flag” operation (like 9/11) here in the U.S. just prior to the 2008 elections, which will cause many (perhaps thousands) more deaths than 9/11 (possibly via chemical, biological or nuclear weapon), giving the Bush Administration an excuse to claim a “national emergency” to postpone the elections, perhaps indefinitely. What this article adds to the mix is that said “false flag” operation may be blamed on Iran, giving the administration an excuse to invade.
