Why a forlorn Karzai is breaking with the west – Ahmed Rashid (FT)
By far the most knowledgeable, credible and coherent commentator on Afghanistan around today. I see little hope of a happy outcome but then Afghanistan doesn’t do happy outcomes. The kindest thing the US could do would be to promise visas to any Afghan women and girls, who want to leave a few months before the troops. In some shape or form the Taliban will be back.
