Some people are seeing this incident as a sort of “October Surprise,” scaring people into not changing the guard during a crisis. I suppose this is possible. However, even if this is not some sort of “election surprise,” it is neither surprising nor unexpected. If you have been following the news for the past year or so (the news that’s NOT front page or election-related), you will know that Yemen has been #1 on the U.S. “hit” parade for well over a year (Iran has been the “cover” for this). Indeed, don’t take my word for it; do a little research for yourself on “little” news stories about Yemen over the past year or so, including “secret” U.S. incursions there. Just as the “al Qaeda” bogeyman was (cynically and propagandistically) tied to Iraq to help justify unprovoked, pre-emptive regime change there, you will now be hearing ALOT about “AQAP” (Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula), as we morph AQ once again into the universal bogeyman. Indeed, notice how the wording has morphed. From (directly) “AQ,” to “tied to AQ,” to “inspired by AQ,” and now “hallmarks of AQ.” As long as they can get AQ in there, they can scare people. It is all amazingly transparent if you actually follow the news.
