The Petition That Van Jones Signed

Other signees include Janeane Garofalo, Michelle Shocked, Daniel Ellsberg, Ed Asner, Thom Hartmann, Richie Havens, Howard Zinn, Ray McGovern, Ralph Nader, and 48 family members of 9/11 victims. The statement reads:

On August 31, 2004, Zogby International, the official North American political polling agency for Reuters, released a poll that found nearly half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of those in New York state believe US leaders had foreknowledge of impending 9/11 attacks and “consciously failed” to act. Of the New York City residents, 66% called for a new probe of unanswered questions by Congress or the New York Attorney General. In connection with this news, we have assembled 100 notable Americans and 40 family members of those who died to sign this 9/11 Statement, which calls for immediate public attention to unanswered questions that suggest that people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war

As an active member of Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth (http://rl911truth.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=27&Itemid=30), and an active member of the 9/11 Truth movement for almost six years, I sadly don’t find this surprising. Indeed, each anniversary of 9/11 brings another spate of propagandistic articles, news reports, TV “specials,” etc. (For example, Popular Mechanics has yet another fiction-laden special on TV.) What happened to Jones is part and parcel of this.

As you may know, I was also involved for over a year in the organization that became NYCCAN – a group of 9/11 family members, survivors, first responders and supporters who created a formal ballot initiative to open a new, thorough, non-political, non-partisan, subpoena-powered investigation into the events of 9/11. We needed only 30,000 signatures but got over 46,000.

Not surprisingly, when the petition was submitted, the court rejected almost 18,000 of the signatures. The group has been scrambling to prove some of the original signatures acceptable, and provide additional signatures. The goal is to have the initiative on the ballot in November.

Yet, again unsurprisingly, there is an active effort afoot to put the kibosh on the whole thing, since the powers that be know that if it ever got on the ballot, it would pass – not simply based on the Zogby poll, but based on the fact that there is even more support now.

We will see. We still have high hopes that the initiative will get on the ballot. That would be historic. And if it passed, that would put the scare on everyone involved in the planning and execution of 9/11. And I don’t mean OBL and Al Qaeda.

    Peace.
