Naomi Wolf has a new book out called “The End of America, A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot“, which outlines ten steps that “fascist, totalitarian, and other repressive leaders [employ to] seize and maintain power, especially in what were once democracies.”

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy (Islamo fascists!!!!)

2. Create a gulag (Guantanamo… secret CIA prisons)

3. Develop a thug caste (um… Blackwater)

4. Set up an internal surveillance system (NSA wiretaps)

5. Harass citizens’ groups (CodePink, Peace Orgs in general)

6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release (GOP convention gate .. thnx Bloomberg!)

7. Target key individuals (Al Gore “invented the Internet” media pile-on, Edwards’ haircut)

8. Control the press (Dan Rather/60 minutes, Phil Donahue, consolidation, see #7)

9. Dissent equals treason (Yep)

10. Suspend the rule of law (Habeas Corpus going going… gone)
