Fantastic Machine

This attachment has been sent to me by my friend, Ming an extremely talented artist and photographer in her own right. It is incredible that we might not know that such a thing existed but for these personal emails. If the human race finds itself in the dock, in front of a jury of aliens asking what we have ever done that is worthwhile, this would be something to cite. What follows is Mings explantation of the unbelievable machine you are about to see.

Who Says Engineers Aren’t Inclined Toward The Arts?

This is almost unbelievable. See how all of the balls wind up in
catcher cones.

This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between
The Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of
Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machine’s
components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation equipment of
Bancroft, Iowa. Yes, farm equipment !

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, align, calibrate,
and tune before filming this video But, as you can see, it was well worth
the effort.

It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the
University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.
