McCain, “I know how to win wars.”

A little belatedly, but with no less puzzlement than was felt when the remark was originally
heard , it is necessary to put on record Senator John S. McCain’s rather puzzling rant about
military policy, delivered at a town hall meeting in Albuquerque, NM, this week.
As you may recall, he said:
“I know how to win wars. I know how to win wars. And if I’m elected President, I will turn
around the war in Afghanistan, just as we have turned around the war in Iraq, with a
comprehensive strategy for victory, I know how to do that.”
The reply came swiftly and succinctly:

From a Viet-Nam veteran:
I don’t know how to win wars- and neither does John McCain. Please someone- ask him which war he
has one. Must be on his resume somewhere.
By the way- the “surge” is not working. We paid off the militants to leave us alone, put up massive
concrete barriers to keep Sunni and Shia apart, and tucked away our troops in the green zone to reduce
casualties- and there is still no progress in the government and no end in sight to the civilian bloodshed
and chaos. In fact they want us out!
I also flew over Hanoi in 1967- didn’t get shot down in 140 missions because my squadron followed
proper tactics in evading surface to air missiles and anti aircraft fire. This does not qualify me for the
role of the Presidency of the United States, however, or give me the knowledge to brag ” I know how to
win wars.”
Wars are not winnable. They are just survivable. McCain has never “won” a war and never will. If he
knows how to win wars why doesn’t he whisper the information into the ears of his buddy Bush instead
of watching more of our brave soldiers die?
John McCain is truly an angry and frustrated egomaniac, who thinks he knows how to win wars (better
than Bush, Cheney, and all the other “warriors” of this administration? Better than Petraeus?). He
would be dangerous anywhere near a nuclear button. This pretender needs to chill out on one of his
wife’s luxurious estates and tend the barbecue. It is very evident that he would continue to turn over our
government to the corporate powers who have been running it for the last eight years.
