Iraq is not being run so differently to what it was under Sadaam. FT

Oh dear, it gives one no satisfaction at all to have largely been proved right on what all of us on MBC were commenting back in 2003. At least the Iranians must be delighted though: Iraq is now firmly in their sphere of influence, Israel has been weakened, the arab world has been divided, the Christians are being hounded from Iraq, America is discredited and is being bled dry in Afghanistan and has so far spent $$trillions with very little – if anything – positive to show for it. George W. Bush has been the best ally the mullahs have ever had and they should be putting up statues of him in every town in the country.

Democracy for Iraq has always been a joke. It will continue that way for a long time. A ruler, strong man is what is needed. Democracy will take a long time-if ever. It was always a term to give slop to the public as our supposed reason for being there, after all the lies who started our invasion. mb

The main reason for the war was that the US economy was tanking and W was floundering in the polls (in my opinion) and a distraction was in order. Ever since Hammurabi a war against someone you think you can beat is the classic way out for a ruler in trouble. Democracy for the Iraqis had nothing to do with it. What about Sudan? What about Zimbabwe? What about Burma? What about N. Korea – to name but a few. Ben Franklin said that democracy was two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch and that is what is happening in Iraq now. The Neo-Con apologists are demented. I wish we had been wrong. One feels so impotent when one knows that terrible shit is going to happen and exactly how when and where it is going to happen and nothing that one can do or say makes one iota of difference. Happy New Year.
