Surely an early departure from Iraq (not that 2011 is that early)is a sign of the strength and confidence of the Iraqi government and the effectiveness of GWB’s ‘surge’. It is what all US politicians overtly espouse, and yet it is now to be seen as a ‘debacle’, on the basis that it is not what GWB actually wanted at all. Be that as it may, it is what America has been crying out for.
Methinks that the good Doctor who sent this article through to Michael is trying to have his cake and eat it.
The article is simply interpreting this Pact as a debacle for GWB’s assumed agenda. it can not suggest that it is a debacle for GWB’s war strategy or for the US. It may well turn out to be a debacle for Iraq itself, but that is another matter and up to the Iraqi government.
