“California lawyer Bernie Goldsmith told the Davis, Calif., Enterprise newspaper that the Pike award ‘sends a clear message to the next officer nervously facing off with a group of passive, unarmed students: Go on ahead. Brutalize them. Trample their rights. You will be well taken care of.'”
Uh…While I disagree with the award, I’m not sure that $38,000 in compensation is being “well taken care of” when one has lost a $120,000-a-year job.
