Thank you for this, Michael. As a center-left evangelical minister myself, I know how critical it is that people of faith not be seen as a monolithic group, or even monolithic within a given denomination. In fact, there is far too much broad-brushing going on BOTH sides.
As an aside, I met Rev. Hunter through my association with Rev. Jim Wallis of Sojourners (of which I have been a member for many years), when both were members of Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. He is truly a kindred spirit, and one of the most thoughtful and intelligent people I have ever met.
And even if this video does not challenge people’s beliefs about “religion,” I hope it will at least open them up to the fact that many people of faith share many of the same concerns – political, economic, social, etc. – that they do.
