Vietnam, El Salvador and US Foreign Policy

With the rekindling of Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground, I wanted to post two articles that put some of our history in context. Much of the foreign policy that gets carried out in our name is invisible to us, and the truth only accessible in occasional exposes in “elite” publications that are unread by most and unreported by the mainstream media.
A Mai Lai a Month – this just out from Nick Turse in the Dec 1st issue of The Nation .. read of General Ewall and Col. Hunt’s craving for “higher body counts” .. they designated the Mekong Delta a “free fire zone” and slaughtered thousands of non-combatants from Feb 1968 to April 1969.
The Truth of El Mozote – from Mark Danner in the Dec 3rd 1993 edition of The New Yorker .. US backed forces in El Salvador massacred whole towns in the name of “fighting communism” in tiny Latin American countries. The first hand accounts of these atrocities will haunt you – mab
