This is just flat-out silly. The idea that BC’s presence as “First Spouse” will somehow create a “plural presidency” is ridiculous, any more than Hillary’s presence as First Lady did. In fact, I wonder if we would even be having this discussion if Eleanor Roosevelt had decided to run while Franklin was still alive. I doubt it.
Wills says, “We have seen in this campaign how former President Clinton rushes to the defense of presidential candidate Clinton.”
So? And this means…what? Is it any different than Michelle Obama or Elizabeth Edwards defending THEIR spouses on the campaign trail? That BC gets more coverage than they do is NOT his “fault.” Is Wills suggesting that BECAUSE Clinton happens to be the former president, that he should not be permitted to defend his wife on the campaign trail? How would THAT be fair?
Peace.
