Report on Haditha Condemns Marines

By Josh White | Saturday, April 21, 2007 | The Washington Post

According to a recently released investigation by an Army general, the Marine Corps chain of command in Iraq ignored “obvious” signs of “serious misconduct” in the 2005 slayings of two dozen civilians in Haditha. Commanders established and encouraged attitudes that devalued the lives of innocent Iraqis to the point that their deaths were considered an insignificant part of the war. It’s heartbreaking stuff, like My Lai or Abu Ghraib, another stain on the honor of our nation and its soldiers. As if we needed one, this awful story is yet another reminder of the brutality of war in general and the outright hubris, bigotry and insanity behind the disastrous wars of choice in Iraq and Vietnam…BS
