MUST READ: Sixty years of faulty logic
By James Carroll | Monday, March 12, 2007 | The Boston Globe
Sixty years ago today, President Harry Truman announced what is now known as the ‘Truman Doctrine’: in the transcendent struggle between the US and the Soviet Union, the United States would actively support any nation struggling for ‘freedom’ and introducing the whole concept of ‘The Free World’ (meaning us and our allies) and dividing the world between US and Soviet spheres of influence. This eventually led to the disastrous wars in Korea and Vietnam, and it is very much alive today, although it is being ignored by the current presidential candidates. This piece is stunning in its originality and well worth the time you invest in reading it. In a word: WOW…BS
