DVD Review: Idiocracy
Mike Judge, the creator of TV cartoon shows Beavis and Butt-Head, and King of the Hill; and the cult hit movie “Office Space”, wrote and directed this movie that because of it’s “controversial” content… it basically takes corporate america to the cleaners… only got a limited release – just 125 theaters in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Mike Judge’s hometown, Austin.
The premise is your basic sci-fi plot borrowed from Woody Allen’s Sleeper where two people (Maya Rudolph and Luke Wilson) are cryogenically frozen and wake up in a brave new world where everyone has become reeeeaaally stupid. Debbie and I rented it from Netflix the other day and it’s brilliant!!
Here’s a collection of some of the riffs in the movie from Wikipedia – “in the film Starbucks now delivers handjobs, Fuddruckers’ name has been changed to “Buttfuckers,” [MAB – it’s kids’ restaurant!!] and the motto of Carl’s Jr. has devolved to “Fuck You! I’m Eating!” (A Carl’s Jr. vending machine is depicted ripping off a customer.) The film also satirizes [exercise] drink manufacturers, with the fictional company Brawndo [it’s got electrolytes!!..what are electrolytes?] in the film controlling large swathes of the U.S. government.”
20th Century Fox is Idiocracy’s distributor and there’s one scene where two Fox News anchors are a Chippendale’s dancer and a stripper!! There’s something in this movie to offend pretty much everybody.
Here’s a link to buy it on Amazon
