A documentary about the battle between Nixon and John Lennon opened last night and I really want to see it. Lennon (ahead if his time, no surprise there) wanted to organize a voter registration tour for McGovern in 1972 and almost got deported for it! They hate us for our freedoms right? Gotta love democracy at work!
I think there’s tons of potential for mobilizing, outreach and voter registration at all kinds of cultural and music events, both large and small. The Our Voices Our World (OVOW) project that myself, Rick Ulfik and Todd Patrick started is working on this with the eventual goal to have regular outreach events in 250, 500 and 1,000 person venues nationwide. Last January’s Hair concert at the Coda club with original Broadway cast and band was the inaugural OVOW event.
Maybe when Hair gets to Broadway again or goes on tour they can do something similar.
