We should all be reading the work of imortant conservative thinkers, and George Will of the Washington Post (and Meet the Press, among others) is among the best. He maintains an admirable margin of neutrality in his stated views, and almost always focuses on issues rather than scandal, from a centrist perspective. Above all, he is a marvelous and persuasive writer.

This piece is basically a book review of “Building Red America: The New Conservative Coalition and the Drive for Permanent Power,” by Thomas B. Edsall of The New Republic, a liberal. Will blasts the book to pieces for its self pity and inconsistency, predicting a permanent Republican majority and ignoring the recent factional splits in the party. This is Will at his practical best, arguing from a stance of realism, clearly stated. Important and a bit horrifying…BS
