NYT: Adding Up the Ounces of Prevention

The question of “why has there not been another attack since 9/11” seems to be high on the query list of pundits and publications. However, they can’t seem to get past the three broadest possibilities: (i) that the government has been successful in preventing and/or thwarting other attacks – highly unlikely, even according to some conservative pundits; (ii) that terrorists are less likely to attack in the U.S. simply due to basic increased security measures, or (iii) that there just aren’t that many terrorists out there with zeal or competence to do anything.

The fourth possibility – that 9/11 was not a terrorist attack at all, but an event “staged” with complicity of the Administration – never even gets considered, despite the fact that it answers the question better than the other three.
