  Richard Haase writes..."and americans unfortunately do not want a history; lesson;
  regretably"

Richard I think that may hold true to some.. but Hair typically sells out it's run, does it not? I'm just asking as I beleive our runs did and I seem to remember going to a few others whcih also did. I guess my question is.. Why? Why change it if it sells really well as it is? It's kinda like, if it aint broke, don't fix it. I beleive that Hair speaks volumes about the state of the world today and I beleive that anyone going to see a production of it can see that on their own without spoonfeeding them new politics.. It's the same ole story same song and dance.. I think there are still people in America (and elsewhere) who come to see hair for the nudity, others for the music, some for the period.. But I would be willing that all.."get it." History lesson? Or ripped from todays headlines?...

On a personal note...I'm behind most of you guys, born 1962, but I am old enough now where my band, I write and play the songs that make me happy.. I don't write for the radio or for the popular scene.. Id like to think of Hair as that.. It does it's own thing.. and if people like it cool.. if they don't.. oh well.. Obviously unlike me.. A Director's goal is to have a hit so that everyone makes their bread.. But Hair does fine... I think I remember Nina sending that list of all the Hair shows up in the US, (or a partial list) It was great..

I would rather see Eric Clapton sing Layla in it's original form rather than see him change it up to sound like Greenday, just because it was more with the times..

Again.. These are just my opinions.. No one get angry with me... JIM

    and i disagree vehemently
the zeigeist of hair was that it was cutting edge
it was never meant to be a museum piece
obviously the inclusion of ipods is cheap and meaningless etc

and the fact is with the commercial reality of recoupment\
even a modest size first class company of hair costs approx 4 million and
up; and americans unfortunately do not want a history; lesson; regretably

    this is not my opinion
but what i have observed in professional media currently
eg the production of two gentlemen of verona
just done in the park in nyc
    another wonderful wonderful show
was just massacred by the critics
i think rather arbitrarily forces in american culture
decided first that the 70s, then the 60s were declasse
and again these are quantiative statements
    not qualitative ones
and not representative of my personal opinion
eg i loved loved loved the original production
