On Monday, 18 April, 2005 Michael Butler <michael at michaelbutler.com forwarded an OP-ED from the New York Times written by Bob Herbert entitled "A Radical in the White House".

Interesting reading.

Though it was before my time, I recall hearing that FDR was the most CONSERVATIVE politician that was considered to be electable at the time, and that, had the Democrat Party not run him, there was a significant chance that a Socialist would have been elected as President!
