I hope you had a chance to read the article I send you about Fred Friendly and JFK. One of the very first things he told me while visiting his home in Riverdale, NY was that he believed LBJ knew about the JFK assassination in advance. I had never paid much attention to the tragedy after 1963 and his remark to me about this in 1981 completely baffled me. I was too intimidated to ask how he came across this knowledge.

But since he had been president of CBS News and Walter Cronkite’s boss there were a lot of stories that came across his desk that never made it on the air because of pressure from above. So what he told me in 1981 was a belief that had been burning a hole in his pocket for 18 years. The person I believe that told him this was McGeorge Bundy who was JFK and LBJ’s national security adviser. Both Bundy and Friendly ended up at the Ford Foundation at about the same time.

I know that you had a close relationship with JFK and anything you would like to share with me would be greatly appreciated.
