More, all of the time, there is an appearance of real concern of ‘too big to fail’. A desire for independence, smaller is better. Home rule. mb
Emerging statistics show by 2020, only 6 years from now, 1/2 of everyone over 65 will have Alzheimer’s, it would be good to be aware of risk factor’s many had not considered. Benzodiazepine’s after 3 months of use are now showing a 51% increase in Alzheimer’s!! 51%. How many younger people have been on them for years? Many with Dementia patients are given benzodiazepine’s to keep them calm, only exacerbating their cognition problems. The excerpt below is a very short list.
There will be spin on this to make it seem not that bad. Do not be fooled be cautious with what you expose your neurons to. They are in decline after one’s early 20’s even in healthy people. Lifestyle choices for health can greatly increase their longevity.
Statin drugs often pushed on anyone considered human by the American medical establishment. I am sure pets will be next. They are also showing significant cognitive impairment and damage in the elderly. At least the FDA issued a warning once the patent expired on one of them. Cholesterol comes from the liver, and is made from dietary fats which increases production in the presence of inflammation in the body. If fish oil and healthy fats are brain food, how did we ever think taking away fat, or lowering cholesterol would make the brain better, especially in the elderly?
Hence, always use the oldest drugs on the market when any Rx agent is needed, we simply know more about the effects they have on the body long term.
excerpts:
1.Common benzodiazepines include: Valium (diazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), Xanax (alprazolam) and Klonopin (clonazepam). The authors of the study reported in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) that the use of benzodiazepines for three months or more was associated with a 51% increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
2. In early 2012, after the patent on Lipitor expired, the FDA issued “new” warnings about the dangers of statin drugs, which include liver injury, memory loss, diabetes, and muscle damage.
3. In contrast, high cholesterol levels are positively correlated with longevity in people over 85 years old, and in some cases have been shown to be associated with better memory function and reduced dementia. (Source.)
