The Pope Joan Theatrical Workshop Web

In contrast, The Pope Joan Theatrical Workshop Web concentrates on Michael Butler's latest effort as a producer. The site not only presents the musical, but also explores the effort it takes to produce a new musical in the 1990s. The most recent production news is featured in the News of the Week.

POPE JOAN, the web site, has been featured in several newspapers, including the New York Times. We are honored with our recent inclusion in MSN's Matter's Art's and Entertainment Guide.

POPE JOAN, the play, has received several awards and honors and was well-received by Chicago audiences and critics:

"What a pleasure it is to see (and hear) such a strong new musical! The plot (based on the legend of the only female pontiff) is gripping, the characters complex and fascinating, the music thrilling, the lyrics clever. You'll love this if you are not an overly sensitive Catholic or someone who just hates musicals." Chicago Magazine, April 1996.

.

Negotiations are underway to take the production up in either Los Angeles, New York, or London.
