What I find most bizarre about this is that these people think they can actually expedite the “Second Coming.” From a theological perspective, the idea that HUMANS could affect God’s plan is not simply ridiculous, it is supremely arrogant. Don’t they realize that anything they might THINK they can do to “expedite” it could either be prevented by God, or “countered” by Him? What a perverse group!

Forms of religion have been with humans from the beginning. It’s the “God gene”. We want some comforting explanation for the great unknown. That’s easy to understand; but it’s not something I personally find necessary.
We don’t need religion to have a code of conduct that insists we all benefit from doing right by one another—the central message of Jesus.
Israel and Jewish CEO’s of Wall St. firms could use a big dose of that. I’d settle for more of the Golden Rule; if that brings the Messiah, fine.
