One Response to “James Carroll: American Exceptionalism Meets Team Jesus”

James Carroll has always been among my favorite writers. As a minister, I find myself agreeing with him 95% of the time. This interview is one of the reasons why. To my mind, the most powerful statement he makes here is: “[H]ere’s a message addressed to the participants in the Tomdispatch community who may have a religious interest: Embrace it. Fight for it. Fight for a post-Enlightenment, post-modern, intelligent approach to religion. Don’t surrender religion to the wackos.”

As an aside, I highly recommend Carroll’s book, “Christianity on Trial,” which is one of the most important historical books on Christianity ever written.

    Peace.
