Re the last article, the following comment (from a reader) is perfectly on point:
“Does this surprise anyone. Scott Stringer says ‘that the borough is becoming a place for very, very wealthy people and enclaves for poor people and that middle-income people are finding it impossible to stay here.’ He is right on target, and it will continue to get worse with the poor getting pushed out of everything but public housing. But the infrastructure of stores and services that serve the poor will slowly be eliminated by gentrification. With the inflation that comes with gentrification the poor and the middle wont be able to afford to eat even if they can afford rent.
Bloomberg is getting what he wants. A white enclave on the Hudson with some people let in to be servants.”
