A lovely memorial piece on James Brown, and his deep influence on the thinking and ideals of African American youth. Sadly, there is no one even vaguely like him in today’s entertainment industry, where the music that young people listen to drowns out self-pride with angry lyrics, “… corrupted by the N-word, misogyny, and glorification of violence. Instead of preaching about earning it in schools and the workplace, the symbols of making it are too often gold chains, gold rings, and gold teeth.”…BS
