Ah, Greenway…truly a master analyst, like Daniel Schorr on NPR. In today’s column, he parses the wwar of words launched by the Administration in preparation for the upcoming elections, and repeated ad nauseum last night by W – in particular, the new buzzword, “Islamic fascism” and the Administration’s spin suggesting it is analogous to Churchill battling the Nazis.
But it just ain’t so, and Greenway then quotes Vincent Sheean, who said of Lord Beaverbrook that in the 1930s he “had the queer belief . . . that things can be made true by saying it.” Greenway goes on to survey the Iraq disaster and conclude that a new method of battling terrorists – one that does not involve invasions – must be found. It’s Greenway at his clear-eyed best…BS
