Whenever I read a news article I know that I’m being told a story..not necessarily a story thats “untrue” but one that put forth a handful of facts and perhaps leaves a few facts out..facts that might put the story or conflict in a better context. I get this sense all the time when I’m reading the foreign section of the NY Times..the “liberal” paper of record. When I read Chomsky for the first time I thought..”finally..the parts of the story that are being left out!!”

This is a fascinating piece by Chomsky on the Israeli conflict – a subject that draws heated debate from people of all stripes..liberal, conservative, moderate, religious, non-religious. I don’t doubt for a second that there’s a whole lot of irrational anti-semitism among arabs and muslims..you hear that part of story all the time anyway. Here Noam fills in some of the blanks and tells the story of how the US and Israel reject peace in favor of expansion into the West Bank. He tells a different story and that pisses off a lot of people.
