Excellent article by Clive Crook (FT) on why Obama is right to ignore the libertarians in his own party as much as the Cheneyites on the other side in dealing with the terrorist threat. Bush was right in that the western democracies are facing an extraordinary threat, which require extraordinary measures but very wrong in making no serious attempt to apply these measures within any credible legal framework, something Obama is now trying to address.
