STEEL FROM THE WTC

mmmm

USS New York.
It was built  with 24 tons of scrap steel from the
World Trade Center.
It is the  fifth in a new class of warship –
designed for missions that  include special
operations against terrorists. It will carry a
crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be  delivered ashore by helicopters and
assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted
down in a  foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship’s bow section. When it  was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, ‘those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,’ recalled Navy  Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there.

‘It was a  spiritual moment for everybody there.’
Junior  Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the  ‘hair on my neck stood up.’ ‘It had a big meaning to it for
all of us,’ he said. ‘They knocked us down. They can’t keep us  down. We’re going to be back.’
The ship’s motto?

‘Never Forget’

Please keep this going so everyone can see what we are  made of in this country!

It is interesting…

What does it say about the human condition that the only thing that would help to make us feel better with regard to the use of the steel from the world trade center is a war machine. A way to strike back at whomever…

Could we not be satisfied by using this metal to provide wheelchairs, beds, stretchers, emergency vehicles, MRI machines, braces and other medical necessities for all of the wounded soldiers that have come back to the US after fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Iraq the war that was a lie (there were no weapons of mass destruction) and in Afghanistan, where the real reason we fight is to capture the lithium market.

Does making this steel into a battleship satisfy some deep emotion of revenge?  Of saying to the world, “oh yeah well my brother is bigger than your brother!”

To me it’s a cheap emotional trick foistered upon us gullible Amerikans who want revenge-satisfaction-who need to feel proud and ‘together’.  It’s why suddenly on Sept 11, 2001 everybody ran around flying American flags on their cars. Everybody got scared and suddenly very patriotic.   Very few in NY did that, but brother, they were all American in the south and in middle America.

Look-I can be just as patriotic as the next guy, but that is between me and my maker. And I can see where, for many people, this will push their emotional buttons-a way from them to say “we are all together”. But, for me, a ship made for retaliation from retaliation just doesn’t float my boat.
