Raining cats and dogs!New York DOGS and other stupid stuff

The AKC reports that, as of 2012 there are 600,000 dogs living in New York City
Let us assume that 95% of all dog owners pick up after their dogs.

Now this may be a very inflated number, but as a dog owner who lived many years in Manhattan, and being aware of the dog shit around me, and dog owners, I would have to say that most every dog owner I ever saw, picked up after their dog.

So that leaves a mere 5% of all dog owners in NYC that are irresponsible-that don’t care, or forget their responsibilities or who just don’t give a shit…or in this case actually do!

Leaving 30,000 dogs that shit twice a day in the street.

That’s 60,000 piles of dog shit a day in NYC

That’s 1,800,000 piles a month

Or a whopping 21,600,000 piles of dog shit a year left on the streets on New York!!!

Now you have to ask, where is all this dog shit?

21 million piles a year and we should be inundated with shit which, reminds me…

Have you seen the weather channel lately?

Here is a network which, when it first took to the air, was really a public service.
Looking at early tapes of their programming, they were antiquated at best-. Dark, one camera studios, weather people referencing computers still working in DOS, but as simple and pure as it was, they were simply trying there best to forecast the weather.

You got the feeling that these dedicated meteorologists , were the goobers from the high school science club doing their level headed best.

No “Hollywood” here-just pure, honest science. No glitz, no glamour, no big names, tight dresses with pouty blonde bimbo’s winking and dancing in front to the cameras. No blue screens, or high tech, cutting edge electronic special effects…no-this was simple and pure.

It simply wasn’t the sensationalistic, fear based, ‘get’em to buy shit’ programming you see today.

So, let’s take a quick look at some of their programming:

Deadliest space weather (now if this was called simply, “Space Weather” no one would tune in. DEADLIEST, baby-that’s the way to draw them to the screen-like flies to the porch light!)

Full force nature (not simply Nature-FULL FORCE!)

Forecasting the end (“nuff said)

Storm stories

Tornado week

Tornado hunt

Planet Xtreme

Hurricane Hunters

It could happen tomorrow (oh please!))

You know, as a fear based consumer society, this weather channel proves to be prime real estate-so much so that it was purchased by NBC and now often boasts the highest Neilson ratings on TV.

The weather channel is really not as much about forecasting the weather as it is about selling cars, soap and insurance.

speaking of which, back in the 80’s I thought the cola wars were a bit much, I am now starting to puke, like one of Pavlov’s dogs, as a reaction to the over baring, unyielding, onslaught of insurance commercials that seem to have taken over every possible commercial spot on TV. But maybe that’s just me.

I want to start a web site called www. weatherchanneldotwrong.com
This site, much like Angela’s List, would, city by city, town by town, forecast by forecast, keep a record-a score of how often the weather channel gets it right and gets it wrong.

My feeling…a rude awakening. It’s really one of the wonderful things about the internet that we can actually still use in the purest sense. It’s what the internet was meant and should actually be…the last vestige of true anarchy.

So if you worry about the amount of shit there is out there, remember this…

You can find a great deal of it on the weather channel.

There is more shit on TV now than there has ever been.
But at least 95% of us dog owners are out there trying to cleaning it up.
