Will the South Rise Again? or is this just more bigotry

Why does it seem that the most right wing, politically conservative, religious backward fanatics come out of the south?

“For one anyplace that Sarah Palin feels at home is not ok. Second, let’s just face that the south is unproductive… I mean their last great invention was the cotton gin right? Don’t even get me started on the habit of the Christian Right (which is based in the south)using the bible as a thinly veiled excuse for hatred. The north may have its problems but seriously at least we have a clearer world view on our sides. It may just be that I am educated or something but I completely agree with this kid. O and Zac Efron is a d-bag. “

“I have a supreme dislike (some would say hate) for the southern states of the US. On the whole, I like the country, I think that we are a very progressive and open minded country except for one region….THE SOUTH”This particularly ugly region of America is responsible for 90% of the negative stereotypes of the country. I count the south as anywhere in the bible belt (but can’t decide whether or not I include Texas…). I have zero tolerance for those stupid, so-called “self-educated” southerners who have never had an original thought in their lives. They are so blind and can’t see past the end of their bibles! Not to say I am against religion, but I am against closed-minded ignorance paraded by the bible thumpers. We passed separation of church and state over 200 years ago for a reason. I also dislike the poverty, the south is rampant with it. Yet they are also the first to complain and give every excuse for the state of their own sad, poor lives. Least we forget that it is the fattest region of the country and the most illiterate, least college educated, and the shortest life expectancy. Haven’t they realized that god isn’t going to spoon-feed them and they need to get off their lazy lipid bearing frames and be proactive. I also can’t stand the accents. To me they simply SCREAM ignorance, but at this point it is more an association I have with this pitiful place.”

“I am sure there are some good people there, and not everyone is a bible-thumping, racist, extremist. In fact I have met several of them and they have been nothing but polite and well-spoken. I am, however, displeased with the slur-speaking, gun-bearing, bible-thumping culture as a whole and think that they are the region crippling the country. They need a shape up fast! “

“I am from the South, I have a Masters Degree, I’m not a member of the religious right. I am a progressive Democrat who voted for Obama. I hated George Bush. I like the friendliness of the South bit I hate the racism, ignorance and the religious right. Down here it’s all guns, God and abortion. Actually I would like to live in New Zealand. I hate the politics and the guns in this country”

“They are always going on and on about The South Will Rise Again!

Give it a rest-The South will NOT rise again.

Many northerners and westerners feel that the South ,the cause of the Civil War, were and continue to be really a threat to the ‘Union” of this county-They and their descendants are traitors to the US!

rallying cry used by Confederacy enthusiasts who believe the southern United States is superior. Often, those who use this phrase believe the American Civil War was “about States’ rights, not slavery”. In fact, the Constitution of the Confederacy was nearly word-for-word identical to the US Constitution, but actually *restricted* States’ rights by requiring every State to be a slave State.

Furthermore, there was no “Southern identity” in the United States until abolition became a major political issue, and rebel states saw slavery as more a matter of property rights, not State’s rights. The States’ rights issue was invented by modern Southern apologists; no real historian takes it seriously.

In short, this is a slogan for southerners who believe they should “take pride in their heritage” even though their heritage includes a legacy of horrifying behavior. The term chanted by most hard core southern rednecks to show there pride in where they live
rednecks often have flashbacks from there forefathers who fought in the original war they then have a small seizure and chant “The south will rise again!” often in ball rooms the wall mart or even the gas station where they hang out
scientists believe this is a genetic condition called “fades past”
the injuries of this genetic condition have been severe since the 1970s when pride rained over.
rednecks began lighting there selves on fire
however a scientist found that beer reduces side effects of the condition. but unleashed more side effects

increased pride.
increased Firework accidents
increased truck explosions

A term used by hardcore southerners in reference to former power the south had in the mid 1800’s. Thought to be racist or redneck by most of the non southern persuasion it is actually a term that has come true in some sense seeing that The south is, in our day in age, a cultural, industrial and economic power. Cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, Charlston (one of the busiest ports in the country), Jacksonville, Mobile, and Montgomery are all cities of industrial and cultural importance.

This Phrase is often represented in unison with the confederate battle flag and associated by the ignorant people of non southern descent (aka northeastern folk) as being a symbol of racism and bigotry, a common misconception as the civil war was not about slavery, but states rights; thus making the confederate flag a symbol of states rights and their sense of independent identity.

slogan touted by dumbass rednecks who name their car ‘general lee’ and for some god damn reason can wear shoes or a shirt but never both at the same time.

I love the south but anyone who thinks there’s going to be a second confederacy is simply a moron and thats that.
Hank: “we’re poor drunk and stupid, ain’t we?”
Beufort: “that’s ok. the south will rise again.”

Studies have shown that Southerners are significantly more conservative than non-Southerners in several areas, including religion, morality, international relations and race relations. This is especially evident during presidential elections and in religious attendance figures.
Overall, the South continues to have lower percentages of high school graduates, lower housing values, and lower household incomes than the rest of the United States. These factors, combined with the fact that Southerners continue to maintain strong loyalty to family ties, has led some sociologists to label white Southerners a “quasi-ethnic regional groupSouthern public schools have consistently ranked in the bottom of many national surveys and average test-score rankings before allowances for race are made

The South has been seen largely as a stronghold of Protestant Christianity. Although the traditional Southerner was Anglican, or more accurately Episcopalian, the predominant denominations in the South are now Baptists (especially the Southern Baptist Convention), followed by Methodists, with other denominations found throughout the region

Eight Southern states have obesity rates over 30% of the population, the highest in the country: Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Rates for hypertension and diabetes for these states are also the highest in the nationA study reported that six Southern states have the worse incidence of sleep disturbances in the nation, attributing the disturbances to high rates of obesity and smoking. The South also has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country, with states like Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas having rates exceeding 60 per 1,000 teens.

Lester Maddox, George Wallace, Strom Thurmond, Newt Gingrich, Robert E Lee, Trent Lott, Pat Robertson, David Duke, Robert Byrd.

Pockets of resistance to integration in public places broke out in violence during the 1960s by the shadowy Ku Klux Klan, which caused a backlash among moderates. Major resistance to school busing extending into the 1970s.

Some Southerners use the Confederate flag to identify themselves with the South, states’ rights and Southern tradition. Groups, such as the League of the South, promote secession from the United States, citing a desire to protect and defend Southern heritage.[88]
Other symbols of the Antebellum South include the Bonnie Blue Flag, magnolia trees, and the song “Dixie”.

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a United States-based Christian denomination. It is the world’s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United States, with over 16 million members as of 2010 It is also the second largest Christian body in the United States, after the Catholic Church.
The word Southern in Southern Baptist Convention stems from its having been founded and rooted in the Southern United States. The SBC became a separate denomination in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, following a regional split with northern Baptists over the issues of slavery. After the American Civil War, another split occurred: most black Baptists in the South separated from white churches and set up their own congregations.”

LOUISIANA
Tuesday, March 20, 2012 Intolerant, gay-hating Pastor Dennis Terry Prays Over Rick Santorum, Wants To “Put God Back In Washington DC” And Wants Other Religions to “Get Out” – Concerned Yet?

Rick Santorum attended a community service at Greenwell Baptist Church on Sunday. Santorum was introduced by Pastor Dennis Terry who raved at his flock:

There is only one God and his name is Jesus. I’m tired of people telling me that I can’t say those words.. Listen to me, If you don’t love America, If you don’t like the way we do things I have one thing to say – GET OUT. We don’t worship Buddha, we don’t worship Mohammad, we don’t worship Allah, we worship God, we worship God’s son Jesus Christ.”

Well I’m tired also. I’m sick and tired of listening to these fanatics who wish to impose their prejudiced views on everyone else. Christian fundamentalists who want the country run under their God’s Law. Forget about separation of God and State because Dennis Terry will give it to you straight, he wants to see

“God back in America. God back in the pulpits. God back in our homes and in our statehouse and then back in Washington D.C.

What more can I say about Dennis? Dennis is the pastor who has likened homosexual people to “thieves, alcoholics and drug users”:

Preaches that “homosexuality is simply a perversion of God’s plan for the human race”:
And that “nobody has ever been born gay”:

Can you feel the love? And this is the guy who wants his God to favour Rick Santorum as the GOP candidate for the Presidency. No surprise there folks

Having established the good pastor’s credentials let’s review what Rick Santorum had to say for himself on the night. According to the blog Right Wing Watch, Santorum was interviewed at the service by former marine, Tony Perkins the President of the Family Research Council. The Family Research Council was founded in 1983 by James Dobson, better known as the father of Focus on the Family. The Southern Poverty Law Center describes The Family Research Council’s ideology as primarily anti-gay and that its real specialty is in defaming gays and lesbians. One of the main aims of the Family Research Council is to scare the American public into believing that homosexuals are secretly planning to gain access to children in order to sexually abuse them.

Another aim of the FRC is to reinstate the unjust “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for those serving in the military. This was the focus of Perkin’s discussion with Santorum who pledged to Perkins that he would restore “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” if he were elected because the repeal was not “in the best interest of our men and women in uniform

There you have it gentle reader, Santorum thinks that it is OK for gays and lesbians to serve their country but don’t tell us that you are doing so. We don’t want to know that.

So my question for Santorum is, why fix something that isn’t broken when even General James Amos who originally criticized the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” now accepts that the repeal hasn’t caused any problems and that there hasn’t been any indication of mass resignations due to the new policy?

Perhaps Santorum would repeal DADT because he is a blundering fool and a panderer to the truly stupid and ignorant anti- homosexual views of those such as Dennis Terry and Tony Perkins. This outlook and a whole host of other backassward views could plunge America into a darker age all in order to satisfy the Christian Right’s ignorant desire for what their America should be. These people shouldn’t even be allowed to call themselves conservative Christians because they are not. They are regressive Christians. Or even repressive Christians. Mostly they are interested in no-one’s freedom but their own and they will do everything to take your freedom from you or tell you to get the hell out of their country if you say that you don’t like it. Get ready people or it will happen.
