Cameron’s Tories point to isolation (Gideon Rachman-FT)

A very good, nuanced bit of journalism, really excellent. I am not sure if the incoherence of the Tories’ (UK Conservatives’) positions on the US, EU and domestic policy is necessarily such a bad thing. If one is of the opinion that a homeopathic reaction to the dementia appearing in some world mainstream parties (viz. the GOP in the US among others) will lead to emergence of new political philosophies then it may be no bad thing that having a jumble of policies will give them a pick ‘n mix option of which way to jump further down the line. The Tories’ performance has been fairly pathetic so far. Labour is exhausted and that alone – they have been in power since 1997 – is reason enough to change them but they have also presided over a series of catastrophes shambolically managed so it is incredible that the Conservatives cannot seem to be able to do any better. The only reason I would vote for them is because we need a change of blood but I have no great hopes of them.
