Beauty and Desecration
A cri de coeur by the historian, Roger Scruton, on the modern need to glorify the shocking and to consider what used to be considered beautiful in art and thought as being too kitsch to be taken seriously in contemporary context. My house is full of modern art and I think it is just as wrong to decry modern art as being ugly because is not like Guardi as it is to say that Guardi is sentimental and kitsch beacuse he did not paint like Otto Dix, whose work I rather enjoy, but it is an article well worth reading.
