Spencer Ackerman: Former FBI Agent Testifies to CIA Contractor Push for Harsh Interrogation
Ali Soufan, a former FBI interrogator who objected to the torture during the interrogation of Abu Zabaydah says that his CIA colleagues also “balked at the techniques” but were “instructed to continue” with using them. Soufan also said that “it was contractors, not CIA officers, who requested the use of these techniques” .. the identities of these contractors have been coming out recently .. like James Mitchell, a former psychologist with the military’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) program and his colleague Bruce Jessen – though one other former interrogator says “while I disagree with [Mitchell and Jessen’s] methods profoundly, there were people in the chain of command above them who set them up for failure” .. read more
