Professor Fish lays out the case for and history of the creation of Superdelegates very susinctly. He sketches out the underlying fear of ‘Demos’ or ‘The Mob’. But wait a minute, how can it be that other Democracies manage without them? It is all so much bunkum.
Not only is the article educational, but the comments which follow are fantastic to read and show what Democracy is really all about.
It is no good opting for Democracy and then saying ‘of course, Democracy doesn’t work and never has worked. We have to modify it.’ You have to go for it, all the way!
Superdelegates are a symbol of America’s uncertainty of itself and why it is in the mess it is in.
It would be great if this blog had the richness of some of the comments that this article has attracted from The New York Times. A very worthwhile read, which has explained much to me.
