The message of high oil prices and America’s particular vulnerability is not a new one.
But finally we seem to be wising up to what has been as plain as the nose on your face for the last ten to fifteen years – at least!
It is ironic that this is now combined with worries about carbon emissions.
Whoever does get elected is likely to be investing in diverse forms of energy production, not the least of these being nuclear. But then, plutonium will soon be in short supply, so there is no panacea there.
Tighten your seat belts for a bumpy ride. As the article says, ‘What, then, will be the lasting consequences of higher energy costs? For the ordinary American consumer the answer is simple, if grim: A diminished quality of life.’
This remark reflects directly on the article ‘Our Three-decade Recession’ posted two down from this peice.
