I like Smiley’s reference to ‘Bush 1’, but that’s about the only thing I like. She says that Hillary is on the same side of the fence as McCain, whereas a lot of the other articles I have read say that there really is very little difference between Hillary and Barack. but then, she is talking about corruption, the other articles were talking about policy.
Smiley’s idea of corruption is to see a candidate as desperate to hang onto power and the revenue stream that it creates. Does it occur to her that a candidate might just see themselves as the best person for the job? Might not that be the driving force?
This is all about the interpretation of a candidate’s motive for running, and if you place your vote on that presumption, then you are skating on very thin ice.
Might I suggest that Smiley ditches the clairvoyance has a look at the candidate’s policies, and tries to assess whether they are at all likely to be able carry them out.
