The article says, ‘Health insurance and the failing economy are the leading domestic issues, and Clinton and Obama differ only in details.’
Posted on 21-Feb-08 at 2:20 am | PermalinkHow right that is, and it is exactly why boardom with their tussle will have set in long before November.
In fact, as enthusiastic as I was for the contest only a few days ago, the gilt is already wearing thin.
Unless they really have something to say, they might as well toss for it.
If they go on as they are, all McCain has to do is shut up and watch them grind themselves into dust.
Not quite. As they saying goes, “the devil is in the details.” In this regard, the differences in details in their two plans for health care and the economy are actually VERY important. Hillary’s health plan is MUCH closer to true universal single-payer health insurance than Obama’s. And don’t be fooled: BOTH plans have mandates; Obama’s mandates coverage for all children, Hillary’s for all children and adults. But as Paul Krugman pointed out in a recent column, Hillary’s plan would cost FAR less per person than Obama’s.
As for the economy, Hillary has had a plan re the mortgage crisis practically since it first came up; Obama only took a position much later – and most of it is cribbed from Hillary’s. Both would eliminate (or decrease) the Bush tax cuts to use for helping finance their health plans. But Hillary’s overall stimulus and future economic plan is FAR better (and more realistic) than Obama’s.
It should also be pointed out that, while he has not said anything about it, one of Obama’s three top economic advisors is a MAJOR proponent of (at least partially) privatizing Social Security.
Peace.
