There are surely two things to be considered.
1 Given these contributions to Obama’s cause and where they come from, who is in the pocket of who? When things cannot be said for fear of losing votes (or sponsors) how likely are things to actually get done?
2 The article says: ‘Obama, the person who fought blue-collar joblessness in the shadows of shuttered factories, is winning wealthy enclaves. But Clinton, the person whose globalization policies helped shutter those factories, is winning blue-collar strongholds’. Surely he is substituting Bill for Hillary. His words are very specific. ‘…………but Clinton, the person whose policies………….’ This kind of reporting is insidious and unjust. During Bill’s Presidency, Hillary would hardly have opposed him, but even at that time the difference in their take on things was apparent. She should at least be thought of as who she is. It is a good laugh to talk about ‘Hill-Bill’, but if anyone thinks that she is Bill’s shoe-in for a third term, they should have said so a long time ago. That is obviously not the case and they don’t say so outright because it is they who would be laughed at, so they peg her with Bill’s baggage instead.
So far, the candidates in this election have raised the notion of politics to higher level at home and have given the US some much needed respect abroad. You don’t want the media bringing the whole thing down to the usual bun-fight.
