As a minister, I was extremely saddened to read this. Christianity has a bad enough rap without zealots like this giving it an even worse name. There is NO way to justify this vis-a-vis Jesus’ actual words or actions. Indeed, it is anathema to His ministry.
And, of course, it saddens and frightens me that this is yet another crack in the separation between church and state, since the military is part of the “state.”
Bad news all around.
