Evolution and dissent

By David K. DeWolf | Monday, June 11, 2007 | The Boston Globe

“IT’S THE QUESTION that won’t go away. Twice during the Republican presidential debates and once at a forum for Democratic candidates, candidates were asked about evolution. For example, in the California debate all the candidates were asked to respond to the question of whether they believed in evolution. In the New Hampshire debate, follow-up questions were asked of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Kansas Senator Sam Brownback. At the Sojourners Forum debate, John Edwards was asked, ‘Do you believe in evolution or do you believe in creationism?’…”…BS

One Response to “Evolution and dissent”

Excellent article, with a well-thought-out approach to the issue. Let me quote a famous scientist re evolutionary theory:

“Authors of the highest eminence seem to be fully satisfied with the view that each species has been independently created. to my mind, it accords better with what we know of the laws impressed upon matter by the Creator that the production and extinction of the past and present inhabitants of the world should have been due to secondary causes…There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms, or into one…”

“Creator?” Life “breathed into a few forms or into one?” This sounds suspiciously like “intelligent design,” doesn’t it? What scientist would suggest such a thing?

The quote is from Charles Darwin in “The Origin of Species.” He never retracted it, and it continues to appear in every new edition of the book.

    Peace.
