Sen. Frankenstein (D-IN) Starts Presidential Run By Attacking People With Pulses
by David Sirota

I really can’t stand Evan Bayh. But it’s really not Evan Bayh – I can’t stand corpses and cures for insomnia who think that because they like the way they look in a dark blue tailored suit they should be President of the United States of America. Joementum II: Biden Boogaloo (and, for that matter Joementum himself) fall into this category.

But still, Evan Bayh really is one of a kind: both a corpse and a cure for insomnia – Democrats’ own Frankenstein right in the Senate. He is a man who, last I checked, hasn’t come up with one mildly interesting idea in his entire career in public office, and has ridden his daddy’s name to remain prominent in Indiana. He somehow thinks his daddy’s last name means he is a viable candidate for President of the United States of America, which everytime I think about, makes me laugh as if I am watching the movie Borat for the third time.

Bayh has mastered the art of regurgitating Republican talking points and building up Democratic straw men so that he can tear them down. Also, as head of Washington’s most laughable corporate front group, the Democratic Leadership Council, he has become very adept at attacking “ideology” as a concept. Case in point is this Associated Press story that says “Bayh warned on Monday that Democrats could lose their newfound grip on Congress if the party pursues an ideological course.” In classic create-a-straw-man fashion, he said, “We cannot be as ideologically extreme as the other side.”

This is a typical career politician move – don’t actually talk about what you are for, talk about what your party supposedly must talk about or not talk about. This kind of behavior usually comes from a person who actually has nothing important or substantive to say, other than “look at me, I want attention.” And in this case, of course, Bayh doesn’t even have the guts to define what “ideological” means. So let’s do it for him: The American Heritage dictionary defines “ideological” as “Of or concerned with ideas.” So, let me restate the AP’s piece:

DES MOINES, Iowa – White House hopeful Sen. Evan Bayh warned on Monday that Democrats could lose their newfound grip on Congress if the party pursues a course of or concerned with ideas.

Bayh – the guy who says Democrats must be as bloodless as him and not be “of or concerned with ideas” – yeah, he’s the same guy who attacks Democrats as being weak on national security because many of them didn’t support the Iraq War, and don’t believe that the definition of “tough and strong” is being the son of a senator who never served in the military yet who thinks proving one’s manhood means being a career politician sitting in a Washington office calling in carpet bombings of civilians in countries that do not threaten the United States.

I hope Sen. Frankenstein (D-IN) runs for President because it will be enjoyable watching this corpse finally get the drubbing he deserves. I don’t say that about most politicians – even the ones who are real jackasses. But this guy is in a league of his own. He is a man who seems to take great pleasure in being a sententious preachy jerk, without having any record to speak of – a guy who doesn’t seem to realize that having an “ideology” – that is, having actual ideas and a belief system and convictions – is what makes people human rather than animals to be herded. No, his prescription is not to try to fix the public’s belief that Democrats stand for nothing, but instead go out and campaign on the fact that Democrats have no ideology and stand for nothing.

Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, Sen. Frankenstein – then please, spare us all: realize that this isn’t the video for Thriller where stiffs like you get to dance around on stage indefintitely, and instead, save your pride and go back to the political cemetery where corpses like you belong.
