British bonds, built at the Hajj

By H.D.S. Greenway | Tuesday, November 28, 2006 | The Boston Globe

Fascinating piece that views current British efforts to support UK Muslims making the pilgrimage to mecca, filtered through the light of Joseph Conrad’s classic “Lord Jim”, set in the Middle East at the opening of the twentieth century. In an age when terrorism is across the land, the program is a quiet but meaningful way of linking British Muslims to their government, making up for the tragic sins of Lord Jim and those like him. I won’t spoil the lovely surprises this essay holds by quoting them. You will be very glad you read this….BS
