What it will take to end war
By James Carroll | Monday, November 6, 2006 | The Washington Post
Another war piece that is not standard fare. Here, political analyst and former war correspondent James Carroll compares the Vietnam War and the Iraq War, and he wonders aloud what might happen if the ascendent Democrats capture one or both Houses of Congress and hold hearings on the lies and blunders of the Bush administration in the run-up and execution of its disastrous folly:
“…Of all the acts of opposition to the war in Vietnam, none was more consequential than the hearings presided over by Senator William Fulbright — a Democrat challenging a Democratic administration. The Fulbright hearings served as the nation’s classroom, with a visceral uneasiness about the war evolving into informed opposition. The decisive election year was 1968, and, sure enough, voters cast their ballots for peace…”
Yet the war did not actually end for another SEVEN YEARS, and the men who dragged out America’s agonizing defeat were none other than Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld…YIKES!!!…BS
