I second your e-motion, Bil. It's a worthwhile listen and a worthwhile addition to one's HAIR library. Here's what I recently wrote to Dauber about it:

It's pretty good -- well, powerful enough that you wouldn't complain about seeing/hearing such a cast live, but, you know, you and I would probably direct a few of the songs differently. But a couple of songs nailed it. "Frank Mills" was a sweet as it should be. "What a Piece of Work Is Man" was similarly sincerely done. And, yeah, they rocked when they went from whispering to singing "Prisoners in Niggertown."

Like I said, there's stuff we might have done differently (or we might have picked a different singer), but, all in all, it's worth having in your HAIR collection.

This is the Actor's Fund Concert recording? I have it already, as it was available for preorder a while ago.

Some of the performances are great. I love Jennifer Hudson's rendition of Easy to be Hard (transcending Cheryl Barnes) and also Harvey Fierstein's Air. It is well recorded, and showcases some great talent.

I did not, however, like the new arrangements/orchestrations, which are similar to the film versions. Also, in many cases, the new/updated lyrics are used. Hippie Life is also included. Overall, I enjoyed the recording, and proceeds from it go to a good cause, so I'd recommend it for HAIR fans.

I still think that the definitive complete recording, with the original arrangements, has yet to be made. The OBC comes close, and the Mexican Cast gets credit for being almost complete. Supposedly Jay Records recorded one a few years ago, but it doesn't look like it will ever get released.
