This article by noted right wing intellectual David Brooks is, in my
humble opinion, utter nonsense. Social Security "reform" is about
privatizing and ultimately destroying the most popular and successful
govt program in US history by rightwing idealogues who are bent on
destroying every shred of the 20th Century legacy of progressive social
reforms. Private accounts have utterly nothing to do with saving social
security from being underfunded (sort of like invading Iraq had nothing
to do with weapons of mass destruction.....or with democracy)
beginning in either 2042 or 2052 (depending on whether you believe
the SS adminstrators or the GAO). The deficit can be easily solved by
doing away with the payroll tax ceiling. Despite the propoganda
campaign around Social Security, the majority of Americans, clinging
to common sense, oppose it.

So I guess the point of sharing this article is to show us that for once,
the ultraright wing seems to be losing a battle. Well, I guess that is
worthwhile--maybe it will signal a trend! May sanity prevail!
